The Taxi Violence Video Concept Competition
Over the month of April, we asked our fans to send in video concepts for the title track off our second album, The Turn.
Going through all entries and much deliberation, we decided that the best concept submitted was by young and upcoming director Ryan Kruger.
After showing us his show reel, we decided that Ryan would be the best person to direct and shoot his own concept, eventhough many directors had asked to realize the winning script.
Shot over two rainy days in Cape Town, The Turn-video promises to be a fantatstic piece of work and is due for release towards to end of August. As a bit of a teaser have a look at the location stills on Facebook as well the behind the scenes video footage provided by OneSmallSeed.TV .
Also, a big THANKS goes out to SA-Music-Channel MK, RVCA clothing, Paul Bothner Music and Wildfire Tattoos, who made this competition possible, and to all the fans who submitted their great concepts.

"Taxi Violence is definitely the best retro/hard rock band to come out of South Africa… To compare them to any other would be a trivial exercise as Taxi Violence stands out above the rest and with The Turn they will be elevated to even greater heights."

"Taxi Violence have always been one of the country’s best live acts (and this remains) but with this album they are now also one of our best recording bands. If you want a piece of South African rock music history, get The Turn, it is a classic album…"
Etienne Buys – www.channel24.co.za
"Their live performances are something you’ve never witnessed before! On stage, Taxi Violence bursts with a violent energy that intensifies their raw music to the extreme. I have never walked away from a Taxi Violence gig disappointed, and I have a feeling I never will."
Lize Kok – My Music Matrix
"Taxi Violence is taking the SA music industry to another level. They have an onstage presence, driven by lead vocalist George van Spuy, that is hypnotically captivating."
Sindy Peters – www.bizcommunity.com
"They'll remind you of other bands you love, but their energy is all their own. Joyous, sweaty, sensual and very rock 'n roll. Taxi Violence are polished and tight as a snake…"
Jean Barker – www.channel24.co.za
"They are a band fuelled by a DIY self-belief and an unflinching passion for good old-fashioned balls-to-the-wall rock ´n roll rebellion."
Miles Keylock - Mail & Guardian
"Few SA bands are as rock ´n roll as Cape Town sensation Taxi Violence"
Caro Ryner - The Weekender
"Taxi Violence is one of those bands that everyone talks about and swears by. And for good reason – from their fiery live shows to recordings that rattle your bones, this staple Cape act has made the front page of several entertainment supplements across the country. They’re the kind of band that go full throttle from the first chord straight through to the last, leaving none standing still as they belt out one epic hit after another."

"This is the same band that wrote Waking Up and In Loving Memory of Photosynthesis, those rare birds of the South African landscape: rock songs with the unmistakable whiff of originality. The Turn surprised me. It rocks hard, it rocks deep, but it also insists on itself as something new...
Hold ‘em or Fold ‘em, the band’s hypnotic tribute to poker night, has “instant classic” scrawled all over its beer-soaked behind. And if Rian Zietsman’s Gibson Firebird doesn’t do it for you, the audacious choral intro to Devil ‘n Pistol will set your spine tingling. But it’s the subtler touch of songs like The Turn that I expect to carry the band across the shitty bandwidth of the dark continent and into the wider world. There’s something different about it, like looking into a child’s eyes and sensing that somehow, they’re older than you are."

"Taxi Violence is real rock and roll. One of the brightest lights to permeate the dark night of the South African rock scene."

"Singer George van Der Spuy has that intense presence we associate with all good frontpersons, and a depth of sexiness that imbues Taxi’s performance with a gleeful gravitas that manages to be earnest while avoiding the turgid. Guitarist Rian Zietsman is developing a signature style that veers from lyricism to wild abandon, but never compromises the song."
